This thriving Baptist Church and the adjoining preschool are at a dangerous bend in the road. In order to keep the structures and people inside safe from speeding cars, the Church installed pillar barricades along its entry. But the community wanted a beautiful sanctuary, too.
“This church is about community outreach first, and we can be a part of that through the landscaping...down to the earth and the plants around the entire campus.”
Working to bring this community’s vision for a safe and delightful sanctuary to life, Kristian created a design focused on functionality and future growth. Wooden housings around the barricades make them more aesthetically pleasing, and the light fixtures inside illuminate them at night.
The sprawling jasmine, colorful camellias and swaying sweetgrass will eventually grow around the barriers to soften the appearance.
“This ongoing project will eventually revamp the entire campus and incorporate foodscaping.”
Kristian plans to work with the community to add foodscaping into the landscape, allowing the church to grow produce and give it to the hungry, using landscaping to further its mission.
